Track and Field Rules
Any athlete not a member of the club will not be allowed to train or compete for the club.
Gate fees are part of the annual membership and must be paid at each session or admittance may be refused.
All coaches and athletes must abide by age restrictions.
It is the Policy of the Club for all Under 11’s & u13’s to train in their own age group. Any athlete under 13 & under 11 (competitive age) must train at 6:30-7:30pm Monday. Under 13’s may train after 7:30 by invitation only and by prior agreement of the committee. Wednesday evening remains invitation only. U11’s are currently restricted to Mondays only. All other athletes are not allowed on the track before 7:30pm on a Monday.
THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THESE RULES
If in any doubt about any aspect of Track or Field etiquette, procedure or especially safety, always ASK any Coach, Official or Senior Athlete.
Never cross the track without looking both ways first.
Never cross from one side of the track to the other by going across the throwing area, always walk round.
Spitting on or around the track will not be tolerated at any time.
Swearing at any times will not be allowed.
Only spikes of a maximum of 6mm in length may be worn on the Track.
At training and coaching sessions always observe Lane usage:
Lane 1. Lap running.
Lane 2. Lap running.
Lane 3. Lap running.
Lane 4. Lap running.
Lane 5. Sprints
Lane 6. Sprints
Lane 7. Sprints & hurdles in both the home & back straights.
Lane 8. Sprints & hurdles in both the home & back straights.
Warm up on the outside of the track or, if not in use, for sprints and hurdles, in Lanes 6 & 5.
If there is someone in your Lane going slower than yourself shouts TRACK they should then move out to the right. If you hear ‘TRACK’ called immediately move to the right – if in doubt stand still.
When crossing the track always check in both directions but remember that all events and most training sessions are conducted in an anti-clockwise direction.
Always walk around the outside of the track and avoid crossing the infield. (This is to avoid unnecessary dirt and mud being brought onto the track and, more importantly, for Health & Safety reasons).
When cooling down, you must use the outside lanes or the off the track completely.
NEVER walk in front of the Timekeepers and Track Judges during a League Fixture, Open Meeting or any completion.
All field equipment must only be ‘signed out’ by a qualified Club Coach and be returned and neatly stored away after use. Members under the age of 18 years may not take out equipment unless under the personal supervision of Club Coach.
When at a throwing event always stand behind the cage or circle, never go in front of the thrower.
When the Hammer, Shot and Javelin is being used make sure all athletes stand well back from the throwing area.
Never collect or pick up any throwing instrument until a Coach or official gives instructions to do so.
Do not sit or play in High Jump / Pole Vault or Long Jump pits, make sure You are supervised by a Coach at all times.
THINK SAFETY, LOOK, LISTEN.
