Essex XC League - Hockley

Colchester & Tendring were in action at the second Essex League Cross Country event at Hockley on Saturday, though lacking in depth there was some quality individual  performances with four teenage athletes qualifying for the Southern Inter Counties at Biggleswade in December by finishing in the top five of their respective races. Joseph Patterson was 4th; Ben Miller 5th in the U17 Men; Sonny Bastone 4th in the U15 Boys and Elsie Gray U15 Girls 5th.

Other good results in the Senior Women – Margaret Deasy 11th, Lacey Bareham 21st;   Uder 17 Women Mary Ann Deasy 15th, Georgina Sturgeon 18th.   Under 15 Girls Ellisa Baggott 30th, Emma Gadsdon 38th.   Under 15 Boys Freddie Richardson 38th, U13 Boys Tom Sturgeon 50th.

In the 53/12 Cross Country at Gt. Notley on Sunday CAT’s finished a respectable 3rd in the Junior Section with enthusiastic runs coming from the following – Tom Palmer 4th, Sam Shippey 16th, Ben Cannell 21st, Emily Donoghue 24th, Ellisa Baggott 26t, Finn Rattray 32nd, Joseph Hammond 33rd, Mazy King 36th, Rachel Sadercock 38th, Matthew Gibney 43rd, Jen Palmer 63rd, Jake Orr 66th and Morgan Raison 77th.  Super Vet Dianne Wooller came 60th in the Senior Race.  Report John Hyland
Colchester and Tendring started their cross country season off reasonably well when taking part in the first Essex League event at One Tree Hill, Langdon Park,  though down on numbers there was some excellent individual  performances,  in the under 15 boys Sonny Bastone came home an impressive 4th in 16mins 48secs with Freddie Richardson 32nd 20m  01s .  U17 men Ben Miller 7th finish strong coming in 28m 30s;   Joe Patterson 12th 29m 15s . In the Senior men  Ramadan Osman had to pull up after banging his leg going through a gate on the course but still managed to finish 45th in one shoe. The senior women saw super vet Margaret Deasey 32m 17s dig deep to finish 10th overall, 1st over 45. Good effort also came from Lacey Bareham 22nd 34m 56s and  Ellie Cummer competing as a vet for the first time  52nd 39m 35s; the  much improved Phillipa Baxter U17 20 women was placed a fine 12th  overall 3rd u20 whilst  in the U15 girls race Ellisa Baggott did well 29th 23min 53 secs with Emma Gadsdon 24min 26secs.   U13 girls - Mazy King 19min 37secs and Jennifer Palmer 23min 15secs  bot worked hard in their first Essex League race. Essex XC League - Epping Forest

Wind and glorious mud greeted the Colchester & Tendring athletes to the fourth Essex Cross Country League event held at Epping Forest on Saturday, once again the small squad of athletes all performed exceptionally well.    In the U15 Boys Ben Miller was 4th 15.35,  U15 Girls Mary Ann Deasy  8th – 18.09;  U17/20 Women – Lydia Callan 8th ( 3rd U17) – 20.33;   Charlotte Kew 18th 24.42;    U17 Men Joe Patterson 4th – 26.38;  Ramadan Osman 7th – 27m10; in the Senior Women Margaret Deasy  5th (lst Over 45) – 29m54.

Essex XC Championships - Woodford

Over a tough undulating mud covered course and pouring rain the Essex Cross Country Championships took place at Claybury, Woodford on Saturday Colchester & Tendring had a quartet of runners competing and all did themselves proud.  

In the U15 Boys Benjamin Miller continued his recent rich vein of form to earn Bronze medal in his 4k race in 16m.11s; the U17 Men 5k saw the determined 15year old Joseph Patterson return to form after only a few weeks since his heart procedure operation with a brave solid run to finish 5th in 19m57s, Joseph’s training partner   Ramadam Osman in his first Essex Championships, had his best race to date to finish strongly in 7th – 20m.04.

The U17 Women 5k Lydia Callan dug deep to show her determination to finish 6th in 24m14.

All four CAT’s athletes look set to have earnt their Essex  Vest for the Inter Counties to be held at Birmingham in March. A superb achievement by all. at the Suffolk Cross Country Championships held at Bury Et Edmonds William Page in the u17men was a excellent 9th in 24mins 49secs whilst Elaise Summer in the under 15 race showed up well coming home in 9th place in 18mins 49secs

ESSEX XC LEAGUE - BRAINTREE

Colchester & Tendring had a small squad of athletes competing in the third Essex Cross Country League event at Notley Park, Braintree on Saturday over a demanding course a number of athletes found it tough going.  In the U15 boys Ben Miller gave a good account of himself in 5th place 12m 43; Oscar Callan showed improved form to finish 34th 14m.07 followed by the gallant Freddie Richardson 36th 14m23.   In the U17 Women 15year old Lydia Callan continued to show progress with an impressive run 8th – 18m.43; a fine effort came from Georgina Sturgeon 24th  20m56s.  and Charlotte Kew 29th – 22m.28.

In the U17 Men Ramadam Osman in only his third cross country race gained further experience when finishing 26th with a time of  20m.40.  

In the U13 Boys Alfie Kelway finished fast in 43rd position; Freya Richardson in the U13 Girls gave a good account of herself was  47th. in, the under 11 race super runs came Grace Kelway 2nd Girl and Roman Callan 5th Boy home.

Four Colchester & Tendring athletes have been called up to run for Essex in the Southern Inter Counties at Oxford they are Joe Patterson U17 Men, Margaret Deasy Senior Lady; Lydia Callan U17 Women and Benjamin Miller U15 Boys doing themselves and Club proud.

Essex XC League - Hyands Park Chelmsford

Colchester & Tendring athletes came away from the second Essex League Cross Country event held at Hylands Park Chelmsford on Saturday with a number of exciting  performances, 15year old Joe Patterson  excelled in his U17  Mens 4.9k race working hard throughout, he stormed home in 2nd position with a time of 20mins 55secs;  Ramadan Osman in only his second cross country race showed promise with a well judged 11th place in 22m 03s whilst  William Page  produced a sterling run 19th 22m 35secs in the U15 boys 4k,  Max Williams had his best Cross County race to date finishing fast in 2nd spot 11min 34s  the consistent Benjamin Miller gave a good account of himself  5th place 11m 43s,  fine support came from Freddie Richardson 32nd 13m.08. and making his debut over the country Oscar Callan 35th  13m 16s.  The U13boys saw lots of enthusiasm from Alfie Kelway 48th 11m 43s and Jake Allwood 68th 12m 55s. Sam Clayton in the senior men’s race returned to form 18th 26m 22s   In the senior ladies super vet  Margaret Deasy was once amongst the leading ladies with a determined 8th  23m 16s;   In  the U17 women’s race Lydia Callan dug deep coming home in 9th  18m 05s;  Georgian Sturgeon though suffering from a cold  gave all 21st ,  Mary Ann Deasy in U15 girls produced a super run 10th 13m 28s.

Essex XC - Chelmsford

Essex XC League - Thurrock

Colchester & Tendring athletes made their mark in the first Essex Cross Country League event organised by the Thurrock Club at One Tree Hill on Saturday, the unstoppable Margaret Deasy once again rose to the occasion in the Senior Womens' 6k to finish a superb 5th in 26m23, the 50 year old  left many of her younger rivals in her wake and looks set for another good season.   In the U15 Boys Ben Miller showed what a tough competitor he is to finish an excellent 3rd – 15m.06 he was supported by solid runs by Max Williams 12th – 15m.56 and Freddie Richardson 33rd – 17m04.  15 year old Joe Patterson moving upto the U17 group paced himself to a respectable 7th position – 24m48.   Ramadan Osman in his first cross country race was 20th in 26m13. CAT’s only complete team of the day was in the U20/17 Women and they finished 5th led by the determined Lydia Callan who finished strongly in 11th spot – 21m01; Georgina Sturgeon gave a good account of herself 19th – 22m07; track specialist Ami Fosker worked hard 23rd – 22m56 ; Phillipa Baxter, making her debut, did well 28th – 23m.35.

In the U15 Girls Mary Ann Deasy showed promise with an impressive 13th place, whilst the U13 Boys race Alfie Kelway showed up well  39th – 14m03 chased hard by Tom Sturgeon 45th –14m.20  a fine run in the U13 Girls came from Freya Richardson 55th 17m.08.   

Essex XC Relay Champs

Colchester & Tendring athletes got off to a positive start to the new Cross Country season when competing in the Essex Cross Country Relay Championships at Hockley Woods on Saturday, the U17 Girls squad in their first year at this age group showed promise when finishing an excellent 2nd to take Silver Medal, over the 3 x 3k course the in form Lydia Callan 12mins 46secs was first to run for CAT’s coming home an excellent lst , Philipa Baxter  14mins 45secs on the 2nd leg gave a good account of herself coming  2nd  whilst Georgina Sturgeon 13mins 36secs on the final leg stuck to her task with determination to bring CAT’s home in Sliver Medal position.

The U17 Boys 3 x 3000 race saw Euan Chess 12mins 07 worked hard on the lst leg   , William Page 12mins took the 2nd leg and dug deep to hand over to Joe Patterson 11mins 18secs who continued the momentum to see the team finished 8th a good performance all round
